Safety Tips

Crime increases during the holiday season so we have some tips to help you stay safe. For your safety, try to follow these tips as much as possible to avoid becoming a target to crooks.

10 Tips to keep you safe this holiday season:

  1. Be sure you can carry everything you purchase. If you know you are going to be buying a lot, bring a friend to help or ask a store employee for assistance out to your car.
  2. Purchase online from companies you know and trust. If you are unsure, look up the company’s background to get more information.
  3. Save your receipts. Keep a file with all the information together and compare with your credit card or bank statement.
  4. To protect your credit card, use onetime or multiuse disposable credit cards or even money orders when purchasing online.
  5. Be sure to take out your credit card or checkbook at the time when payment is needed. Do not take it out earlier because a thief could easily come up and snatch it while you are waiting.
  6. Keep your purse zipped, closed and carry it close to your body. Never leave your purse unattended.
  7. When you are walking out to your car, be aware of your surroundings. Have your keys in your hand so you are not fumbling around in your purse looking for them. Glance around your car and in your back seat for a thief.
  8. Never leave shopping bags visible in your car. If you are at the mall and need to drop off bags, lock them in the trunk and then move your car to another parking area, a thief could be watching you.
  9. If you see an unattended shopping bag or package, notify a security guard or store employee right away. Be sure to report suspicious behavior.
  10. If you are shopping with children, be sure to set a plan if you are separated. Pick a central meeting place and make them aware they can ask a security guard or store employee for help.

Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday season!
